Melbourne Cup Fundraiser
Breast cancer survivors in the Shire get an extra boost
9th November, 2017
Melbourne Cup Day at Salsa Bar & Grill saw the old Queenslander awash in pink and white, guests dressed to the nines all raising money for local breast cancer support group Pink in the Tropics. Over 100 locals came out in force to support the local charity, have a punt and great time and together with local businesses in the Douglas Shire, raised a whopping $9,600. Since the first collaboration in 2012, Salsa has raised in excess of $35,000 for Pink in the Tropics. Pink in the Tropics president Annie Richardson was overwhelmed by the support from the Douglas Shire; “knowing how these funds will support local ladies through such a tough time, I’m simply overwhelmed”.
Pink in the Tropics is a breast cancer support group who aims to help women feel less isolated and more support during their breast cancer journey. It can be as menial as having a cleaner come in to help once a week, but that helping hand around the house can be the difference between a good and a bad week. For more information on Pink in the Tropics, wish to donate or become a member go to www.pinkinthetropics.org
Proceeds were raised with thanks to the local business community including a 5 night stay at the stunning Far Pavilions on Murphy St with thanks to LJ Hooker Luxury Holiday Collection; a full day charter on board Indigo Port Douglas; the ‘Ultimate Thong Life Experience’ thanks to Port Douglas Uncovered as well as 2 x 3 nights stay including breakfast at the Sheraton Grand Mirage Resort.
More amazing businesses that contributed include Tropical Journeys, Quicksilver, Tommy Bahama, Enhanced Beauty & Massage, Flash Lash by Gail, U Beauty, The Tin Shed, Tzusk, Jungle Road Clothing, Skyrail, Port Laundry & Linen, The Hair Shop, Studio 17, Wild About Spices, Bidvest, Samuel Smith & Sons, Frank Dangelico from The Wine Tradition, Dejavu.
